Well everyone has their own views on this, some would say Intel CPUs have better single-core performance whereas others opt for AMD due to its better multitasking nature. Before we find out which one to go with, it’s important to learn about the nature of the AutoCAD application first.
AutoCAD is a single-threaded application with only a few of its tasks being offloaded. So investing your money in too many CPU cores won’t improve your performance in AutoCAD.

The latest Ryzen CPUs make it much smoother to interact with large AutoCAD files that involve a lot of layers and drawings.

As I’ve said earlier, AutoCAD doesn’t consume a lot of CPU resources as it’s a single-threaded application. But there are some minimum requirements that your system must meet in order to smoothly run AutoCAD.

Especially, when you are dealing with heavy 3D rendering stuff in AutoCAD, you have to opt for high-performance hardware in your system. In that case, you have to consider a decent GPU along with your Intel or AMD processor.

So far an application like AutoCAD that is single-threaded in nature only occupies a single core of a CPU. And this is the reason why a higher number of cores have no impact on your performance in AutoCAD.

If you are into heavy 3D rendering stuff in AutoCAD, then it’s better to go with an AMD Ryzen processor to get the optimal performance. You should choose any AMD Zen 3 CPU that comes with at least 16 cores and 32 threads. This will make your machine future-proof for any large projects you build in AutoCAD.
